As you may recall, at this time last year the Seahawks had just battled their way into the playoffs and the entire state of Washington was ablaze with excitement. Several times I had people run up and grab me by my tunic, staring at me with crazed bloodshot eyes as they cried YOU MUST MAKE A SEAHAWKS ICE CREAM!! My first response was a firm, bah! With a finger pointed high in the air I declared that, never shall I pander to corporations nor popular culture! This ice cream is the product of a thousand years of dairy mastery, not some tawdry harlot to be sold to the highest bidder! With an indignation that was palpable, I turned away and looked upon a vast sea of blue and green jerseys, war banners with the number 12 emblazoned upon then, children wearing caps sporting the hawks head and families gathered for tail-gait parties. It was then that I realized that this was not simply flash-in-the-pan silliness like Brittney Spears, internet memes or women in the workplace, the Seahawks are an integral part of northwestern culture. Seahawk unity gives co-workers something to talk about, families a reason to be in the same room each Sunday and the downtrodden a new reason for living. I realized then that it was not only acceptable for me to make a Seahawks ice cream, but as a transplant to the Northwest, it may even be my OBLIGATION to! And thus did BLUE THUNDER come into being. A delicious combination of blueberry and lime to symbolize the blue and green of the team, packed with a tart punch like the impact of a linebacker. The flavor sold out quickly and rumor has it, that the entire team gulped down a pint before each game including the Superbowl and we all know how THAT turned out! Youre welcome by the way. So then, here we are again. The Seahawks in the playoffs and the pleas for Blue Thunder ringing in my ears. Perhaps it gives our team an unfair advantage to unleash this magical flavor once again but thats what the rest of America gets for not attracting Nordic ice cream makers. BLUE THUNDER is now available at Poulsbo Red Apple, Central Market, Kingston Albertsons and Masi Shop. I will only be making it until the Seahawks win the Superbowl again to get it now before its gone!
