As you struggle through the pain of having been abused, devalued, - TopicsExpress

As you struggle through the pain of having been abused, devalued, ridiculed, and ignored, you may start to view yourself as a “psychopath magnet.” You may think that you have particular qualities that attracted the psychopath to you. You may even believe that you are doomed to experience more of these encounters and be hurt over and over again. Or you may believe that you need to build up a permanent wall around heart. However, contrary to popular opinion, the truth is that anyone can be a potential target of a psychopath. Anyone can be duped and manipulated. You did not deserve to be so cruelly mistreated, and you are not defective. On the contrary, you have many wonderful qualities of which you are perhaps unaware. You can tune in to those amazing parts of yourself by taking the horror of what’s happened to you and using it to transform yourself for the better. And that’s where you will find hope. An encounter with evil is traumatic, isolating, and crushingly heartbreaking. It also gives you the opportunity to see what you could not see before, both in yourself and in others. It gives you the opportunity to develop a deeper level of self-awareness and self-love that can only emerge from the ashes of lost innocence. It gives you the opportunity to reach out to others who understand. And it gives you the opportunity to find new ways to believe in and trust yourself. And when that happens, you will embrace the wiser, stronger you, and you will start to believe in humanity once again.
