Asaduddin Owaisi halts in Malegaon enroute Mumbai, gets a heros welcome - Saturday October 4, 2014. Malegaon: Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who was travelling to Mumbai by road to address an election rally later in the evening Saturday, was greeted by an impromptu but huge crowd when he halted in Malegaon for a brief stopover. Much to the delight of the slogan shouting MIM supporters, who were running over each other to get a glimpse of their party chief, Owaisi boarded off his vehicle, jumped on the backseat of a party workers motor bike, and rode about two kms as pillion. During his four hours stay in Malegaon, Asaduddin Owaisi also met the leaders of Kul Jamaati Tanzeem, Jamaate-Islami Hind, Jamiat Ahle Hadees, Jamiat-e-Ulema and Sunni Jamiat, and stressed upon them the need of creating an alternative to the mainstream political parties. He also appealed them to vote and support the MIM candidates. We are not contesting the Maharashtra elections for the sake of power. Neither are we here to divide the secular votes. The MIM is well set in Hyderabad and Telangana. We are seeking your support to regain our lost glory, Owaisi said while meeting the Kul Jamaati Tanzeem leaders. He said it is high time for the Muslims to rework their political strategy and stop depending on others. We are instrumental in the victories of the candidates associated with the so-called secular parties. What we got in return? Poverty, jails for our youths, police bullets for our sons? For how long this will continue? he asked. Armed with data and statistics, Owaisi explained how the rampant exploitation by political parties has added to the woes of already beleaguered Muslim community. We have been converted into political slaves, mere vote bank for few political parties. Is this the legacy of our fathers and forefathers? he asked. To change or not to change is in our hands. The present situation demands the creation of a strong Muslim leadership, which the Congress and other parties are afraid of, he added. It was Asaduddin Owaisis third visit to Malegaon in as many years. He was in this textile town during Ramadan, but was not allowed to address public meetings. The first time he visited Malegaon was in 2006, when he came here with a high level delegation of Muslim MPs after the September 2006 blasts. In the past three years, MIM local leaders invited him for the party rallies, but he was barred from entering Malegaon by the Maharashtra police. He, however, is now travelling the length and breadth of Maharashtra to campaign for the MIM candidates. Last week, he led a Pad-Yatra in Aurangabad for the MIM candidates Imtiyaz Jaleel and Gangadhar Gade. He also addressed half a dozen rallies in Mumbai , Bhiwandi and other parts of Maharashtra. His first public meeting in Malegaon is scheduled for October 09. On Friday September 26, his younger brother and Telangana legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi had kick-started the MIMs poll campaign in Malegaon by a huge rally which was attended by over a lakh people. - See more at: fb/aimimnewhafeezpet
