Asalaamu alaikum ! Yesterday i saw something on my news feed , of course there was controversy. I read peoples responses. The question was pertaining to a revert sister like myself who is expecting a baby (inshaAllah/ MashaAllah) and she was uncertain if it was okay for a male doctor to deliver her baby. Many people said she should fight for her rights to have a female doctor, others said she should demand one , male doctor is okay with female chaperones. My response was simple, it is all based on your intention when it comes to anything you do in your life. The Quran is a guideline. People take the extremes about haraam and halal but are missing the purpose ( which is the intention behind the action or reasoning)... In extreme cases such as delivering a baby, they have to call in the on call doctor because the baby generally never comes out on the due date (Of course you can always request one, may not be able to accommodate that) . However, It is haraam to put youself and the babies life at risk because you are demanding a female doctor. Generally there are female nurses present and you own husband or family members (mother/mother in Law etc). The labour point your intention is ensuring the baby comes out safe, not about the doctor seeing you. As long as your intention in pure and in the right, Allah is ever merciful, forgiving and understanding. Fellow brothers and sisters what is your opinion or suggestion on this matter?
