Asaram, son make frantic bid to keep their support base intact Yagnesh Mehta, TNN Oct 14, 2013, 12.59AM IST Tags: Narayan Sai|Asaram rape case|asaram ashram|ASARAM SURAT: Fearing erosion of their support base, the rape accused father-son duo Asaram and Narayan Sai are allegedly making desperate attempts to maintain confidence of their followers. After taking a legal recourse like anticipatory bail pleas and quashing of FIR application, they are now trying to influence their followers through pamphlets, video CDs, website campaign and mobile messages. So much so, that they are allegedly even encouraging their supporters and devotees to resort to violence. The core group of Sai is circulating SMS and messages on instant messaging applications to their supporters and encouraging them to carry out protests against the police actions. From mobile phone of Amit Bhojwani, a close associate of Sai, police found messages like torch everything, dont sit quiet. Bhojwani circulated similar messages to around 6,000 contacts in his mobile phone. Surat police have came across pamphlets printed in Hindi claiming that the rape complaints are part of conspiracy against Asaram and Sai. The pamphlet blames political parties, police and media for running the campaign. Police are now searching for source of the pamphlets to reach to the key accused Sai, who is evading arrest since a week now. Similarly, a CD with videos of Asaram and Sai is being circulated giving details about their legal activities. The CD further described a conspiracy theory in which various sections of society are taking part. The CD claims safe return of the father-son duo. Specially made videos in support of both were put up on the website of the group. Apart from videos of Asarams speech and prayer, there is a special section on website that alleges that the police action against both are politically motivated. The videos have statements of VHP leaders supporting Asaram. In the online video, all the media reports are claimed wrong and bias. We are keeping close eye on those who are trying to disrupt the investigation by circulating pamphlets and messages. We will nail all those who are helping the accused avoid police arrest, said a senior police officer.
