Ascension Adventures Day 07 December 07, 2014 Tour #A UXMAL, YUCATAN Ascension Adventures descends towards the great and massive Mayan capital of Uxmal!!!!! One of the most powerful Mayan kingdoms of the classic until the late post classic period. Uxmal was habited by thousands of people and its perimeter its numerous kilometers wide, till this day only 15% of Uxmal has been excavated with great mysteries still buried deep in the wild Yucatec jungle! Its main acropolis contains a massive pyramid that was built in one night by a dwarf ( alush ) forest spirit. The main pyramid displays a massive grandeur of craftsmanship at its finest by the Mayan people with high reliefs of the main central deity Chaac god of rain!! The plaza is decorated with large mind blowing motifs of snakes crawling down the entire complex symbolizing the snake god Kukulkan!! The style of architecture portrayed in Uxmal is referred as Puuc only here and in the surrounding area you can find this type of reliefs.. It houses one of the biggest Mayan style ballcourt used for representing the passage of earth along the central pivot of the Milky Way galaxy. The Puuc region hosts numerous archeological sites along the route making this area one of the most highly commemorated areas of the Mayan kingdom.. The Mayas were obsessed with the passage of time and its magical forces, its no wonder why they call themselves the childrens of time!! Even quoting Life is not important, Time is important We will have numerous hours to slowly and meticulously explore its temples and its hidden passages, many that I have discovered :) By the 8th Day visiting a different Mayan temple you will be able to fully understand the progress of art, culture, religion and cosmology of the Mayan Civilization!! From Cancun riviera classic period during the fall of the maya kingdom until we reach Honduras on Tour B visiting copan seeing its origins and taking a small peak into the cradle of Mayan civilization!! After our visit to Uxmal we will depart the beautiful state of Yucatan and arrive in the colonial port city of Campeche!!!!
