Ascott Celebrates Christmas with a Go Green - TopicsExpress

Ascott Celebrates Christmas with a Go Green Twist CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), embarked on a global sustainability drive, ‘Go Green @ Ascott’ since 2012, as it strives to become the world’s leading green serviced residence company. As part of the ongoing initiatives, Ascott India is celebrating Christmas this year with a ‘Go Green’ twist. This Christmas, across its operating serviced residences in India, Ascott has set up Christmas Trees created out of discarded plastic bottles. The Christmas trees at Somerset Greenways Chennai and Citadines Richmond Bangalore were made out of a total of 3600 plastic bottles consumed by in-house guests over a 10 day period. The trees were assembled, painted and decorated by Ascott’s staff. Ajit Koushik, Ascott’s Area General Manager for India, said: “Plastic is the most prevalent form of pollution on earth. Once discarded, they will remain in the landfill for hundreds of years or end up in the nearest stream, river or ocean. Millions of marine mammals and seabirds die after eating or being snared by plastic marine litter. We hope that our Christmas trees serve as a reminder of the perils of plastic use and encourage guests and staff alike to use reusable water containers as much as possible.” Ascott has always been involved in various Go Green activities in India since it launched its India operations in 2011. Earlier this year Ascott staff observed World Environment Day by organising free pollution checks for vehicles in conjunction with the local government agency. The staff have also been involved in community cleanup activities in Chennai and Bangalore and have planted nearly 1500 saplings since 2011. The Ascott Limited is the worlds largest international serviced residence owner-operator with over 38,000 serviced residence units in over 200 properties units across key cities of Asia Pacific, Europe and the Gulf region. The company operates three brands – Ascott The Residence, Citadines Apart’hotel and Somerset Serviced Residence – and its portfolio spans 89 cities across 24 countries. In India, Ascott operates the 187-unit Somerset Greenways in Chennai and the 96-unit Citadines Richmond in Bangalore. Ascott’s achievements have been recognised internationally. Recent awards include World Travel Awards 2014 for ‘Leading Serviced Apartment Brand’ and ‘Leading Serviced Apartments’ in Belgium, France, Germany, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Awards 2014 for ‘Best Serviced Residence Brand’ and ‘Best Serviced Residence’, Business Traveller UK Awards 2014 for ‘Best Serviced Apartment Company’, Business Traveller China Awards 2014 for ‘Best Serviced Residence Brand’ and ‘Best Serviced Residence’, TTG China Travel Awards 2014 for ‘Best Serviced Residence Operator in China’ and DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards 2014 for ‘Best Serviced Residence Brand’.
