Ashbys MP Andrew Bridgen toured a Measham firm and met some of its 500 staff at the village facility - which is located on the proposed route of the HS2 rail project. The Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire was the guest of Plastic Omnium, a primary supplier of key body parts to Jaguar Land Rover and Nissan, providing a range of products for some of the high end premium cars in the manufacturers’ product lines including the Jaguar XJ and Jaguar XF, the Range Rover and Discovery, and will also be providing parts for the new Jaguar XE. Plastic Omnium - which has formally objected to HS2 saying relocation of its staff to make way for the line could cost it millions of pounds - also supplies components for the Nissan Qashqai. During the visit Andrew Bridgen was shown the complex production lines, learnt about the on-site injection moulding and painting processes, and saw for himself the highly skilled nature of the business. He said: Plastic Omnium is an impressive company. With a worldwide reputation for excellence it is a key supplier to the car manufacturing industry in the UK, an industry that is one of the most important to the country’s economy. I am proud that it is located in my constituency providing significant high quality, highly skilled technical and engineering employment opportunities for many of my constituents. It is essential that the plans for Phase Two of the high speed rail project do not undermine the integrity of the Measham site as it plays such a central role in the car manufacturing supply chain. Any disruption to its production lines must be avoided and I will be doing all I can to help mitigate the impact of HS2 on this important business to the UK and to my constituency. So I was pleased to be hosted at the site in Measham by the UK country director, the commercial director, the plant director and the UK HR manager and I am grateful for being given the opportunity to gain such a thorough understanding of this highly complex business and to learn about its plans for the future.
