Ashes Series – Trent Bridge – 13/07/2013 day 4 England started the day on 326-6, and were all out for 375 before lunch, with a lead of 311, which may or may not be enough to go one up, and with the Aussies, on 174-6 at the close, there is much to play for, in this epic contest. Broad and Bell both brought up their milestones 50 (135 over) and 100 (136 over) respectively, but Broad was the first to depart by edging a good length ball from Pattinson to Haddin for 65 (141 overs). Bell followed soon after for 109, when he mis-drove a seaming ball form Starc, to Haddin for another catch. 371-8. Swann made 9 in his short innings but slashed at a wide one and caught at slip by Watson, bowled Siddle for 9. 375-9, Anderson came and went for 0, hitting Siddle straight to Hughes at cover. All out for 375. Watson and Rogers, came in for Australia and saw them through to lunch 28 –0. Both continued well afterwards, and ticked along merrily at just below four an over, until Watson, missed a straight ball from Broad in the 25th over of the innings for 44, and was sent on his way, a leg before decision. Rogers, survived a DRS, soon after, but lived to fight another day. With Cowan, entering the fray the run rate dropped, Rogers passed his first 50 in test cricket in 37th over. With a few overs left for tea Cowan, tried to hit a big shot at Joe Root, but only finding the edge, with Trott taking the catch, and departed for 14, and was Root’s first test wicket. Tea taken straight away, 111-2. Surprised by the pace men, coming back to bowl after tea, as the Root and Swann,, were keeping things quite, bringing the run rate down, and keeping the batsmen on their toes. But Jimmy Anderson, proved the captains decision was right when he nailed Rogers for 52. caught by Bell, a lofted shot to mid wicket. 124-3. In the 59 over the Australian captain, was sent packing when he feathered a good length straight ball from Broad, and was caught by Prior at the wicket. 161-4. Steve Smith, followed his skipper when Swann, was brought back into the attack, when he went on the back foot and was plum in front LBW, from the off break that straightened. 161-5. Phil Hughes was virtually in and out and went the same way as Smith, playing back to Swann, and was another LBW casualty. 164-6. Hughes’s wicket was the final wicket of day four, and at the close 174-6 (71 overs) at stumps. With Ashton Agar, who was promoted up the order, and Brad Haddin at the wicket for the start of the final day, another intriguing session or sessions begs. At this present moment either team have chance to go to Lords next Thursday one up. Come on England – YOUR COUNTRY EXPECTS. “View from the Armchair”
