Ashes series – Trent Bridge – day 5 14/07/2013 Visions of Edgbaston, 2005 came flooding back, as Australia, were getting close. But another edge to the ‘keeper in the “Jones – Harmison” mould, (with no DRS or Billy Bowden this time) gave England the lead in the series, on sticky Sunday afternoon. Australia started the day on 174-6 with 137 to win, or England need 4 wickets to win, with Agar and Haddin at the crease. These two put on 33 in the first hour, moving the score along at the right rate, then Agar, edged a good delivery to slip, off Jimbob, the crowd went wiid. Agar ct Cook bwl Anderson 14. 207-7 (87th over). This brought Starc out to face, but he soon went, as he edged another cracker from Jimbob. Starc ct Cook bwl Anderson 1. 211-8. Siddle, arrived out in the centre, and was grassed by the Skipper attempting a difficult diving catch. A few overs later the same batsmen slashed at an Anderson delivery, and was out to a brilliant catch, from the skipper and was on his way back to the pavilion. Siddle ct Cook bwl Anderson 11. 231-9. Pattison, entered the fray, Haddin brought his 50 up in the 99th over, and the runs began flow a bit quicker, as Pattinson, hit Finn for three consecutive boundaries in an over that went for 15. A bit a hesitancy between the batsman left Pattinson stranded halfway down the pitch, but the throw from the field was not good, so he fights to live another day, In the following 106th over Finn, stretched for a catching chance in the deep, but did quite make it, and HADDIN, survived. At this point, play was continuing via courtesy of an extra thirty minutes. Lunch 291-9, Australia 20 to win, England 1 wicket to win. Haddin, resumed on 69 not out, and was looking pretty immovable. Nerves were straining, but the Barmy Army, got into full voice, MIGHTY MIGHTY ENGLAND, and this tenth wicket partnership continued, but not for long. The mighty mighty Jimbob, again delivered a peach, Haddin feathered to Matty Prior, the whole Trent Bridge (apart from some yellow shirted people) went wild. Hold it, hold it, they’re called for a review. The decision which seemed to take for ever and a day, finally came through and Aleem Dar, raised that finger. More wild scenes, but we’re only one up with four to go. For the record Haddin ct Prior bwl Anderson 71. Pattinson 25 not out. Australia all out for 296.( 111th over). On this evidence Australia will a very tough opponent in weeks to come, those of you who have taken 5 nil on England at your local Turf accountant, hope you have got some very good odds. The local vicar and the Colonel; after afternoon tea and refreshments, went on there merry way, to polish up the egg and bacon dog collar, and likewise tie, respectively for the next encounter.
