Asheville City Council enjoys Demonizing the North Carolina - TopicsExpress

Asheville City Council enjoys Demonizing the North Carolina Republican Legislation for attempting to take Ashevilles Water System and having to fight to keep Ashevilles Resource ( Water System). The cost to tax payers in attorney fees was 550,000. What people need to know is that the City of Asheville controlled by Democrats is no different in the way it treats its Resource (Asheville Police Officers). Here are some facts: The City of Asheville decided to arbitrarily decided to take Sick Time that had already been earned by policy from a city resource (Asheville Police Officers). This forced the Asheville Police Officers to file a Federal Lawsuit to regain the sick time back. The city hired the law firm McGuire, Wood & Bissette, PA and then transferred to Ward & Smith PA. The cost to tax payers for legal expenses was $124,604.11 to defend the cities actions. The tax payers also had to pay for the Asheville Police Officers attorney fees totaling $32,500 dollars. Total: $ 157,104 dollars The City of Asheville terminated a Police Officer forcing the APD Officer to file a grievance and having his case heard in front of the Civil Service Board. The Civil Service Board sided with the terminated APD Officer and requested the officer be put back to work. The City of Asheville appealed the decision to Buncombe County Superior Court and was heard in front of Judge Downs. Judge Downs also rendered a decision in favor of the terminated APD officer ordering the city to put the officer back to work. Once again the City of Asheville appealed this decision to the North Carolina Court of Appeals to be heard. The North Carolina Court of Appeals also rendered a decision in favor of the terminated APD Officer ordering the city to put the officer back to work. The City of Asheville stated they were going to appeal that decision but before that occurred there was a settlement in the case. As of October 25, 2013 the City of Asheville had paid in tax payers money $107,596 in court cost and attorney fees. The final cost to the tax payers of Asheville is unknown but the City of Asheville and the terminated officer settled and paid the officer $250,000 dollars and other benefits. There currently is an APD Officer who was terminated and has appealed his firing to the Civil Service Board . I am told that the Civil Service Board sided with the terminated APD officer but the City of Asheville has appealed this case to Buncombe County Superior Court. So once again the City of Asheville is spending Tax Payer money to keep this case tied up in court. Totaling: $514,700 or more. The City of Asheville controlled by Democrats is NO different in the way it Treats its Asheville Police Officers than the way the city complains how the North Carolina Republican Legislation treats the City of Asheville.
