Ashley Home Furniture JOB DESCRIPTION Job Description Title: Sales Associate FLSA Classification: Hourly/Commission Department: Sales Location: Corporate HomeStores Division: Ashley HomeStores Grade: Reports to: Sales Manager Status: Prepared by: Effective Date: JOB SUMMARY Sales Associates are responsible to professionally welcome prospective consumers as they enter the store and present possible solutions through product presentation enticing the shopper to become a buyer. Requires superior customer service skills and the ability to close sales transactions and process other merchandise related transactions according to company procedures. The Sales Associate may be assigned zones to maintain following company standards of cleanliness and ensure that furniture and accessories are properly located, clean and in good condition. Responsibilities 1. Greet the customer in a professional sales manor with a non-business opening, performs product presentation, attempting to close each opportunity with each customer. Attempting to add on items with each sale, and attempts to add on extended warranty with each sale. 2. Accurately completes the appropriate paperwork and submits to Customer Service Department: 1. Sales Orders 2. Delivery Instructions 3. Information Journal 3. Contacts customer after delivery to ensure total satisfaction; including but not limited to: phone calls, thank you letters and any assistance. 4. Records customer information to track advertising effectiveness. 5. Maintains a consistent high level of performance when shifting between several assigned activities, including: a. Selling merchandise b. Maintaining store cleanliness standards 6. Must meet pre-established metrics/goals set forth to achieve sales each month. 7. Completes showroom floor recovery/housekeeping ensuring neat and clean in designated areas. 8. Remain aware of area competition, and keep up-to-date on current retail trends. 9. Actively participate in weekly sales, departmental meetings, and one-on-one coaching sessions with Sales Manager, trainers, and/or Store Manager, training, and education. Assist with training other employees and providing backup. 10. Maintain reliable attendance and adhere to work schedule. 11. Complete other assignments and special projects as requested. Scope Primarily responsible for own work. Makes routine choices within established procedures, with readily available supervision. Frequent interaction to provide basic information. Sales Associates also maintain Store cleanliness according to company standards and ensure that merchandise is available for customers. Education & Experience 1. Education • High School Diploma required • AAS Degree in Marketing, Retail or Business Administration preferred 2. Experience • 1 year retail sales experience preferred • Furniture retail experience preferred 3. Knowledge of: • Product pricing, inventory status and terms of sale • Knows features and benefits of products • Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools 4. Skills and Abilities • Excellent/professional communication skills with both internal and external contacts • Proficient computer skills • Professional telephone skills • Understands basic financial terms • Reading and math skills to interpret and calculate customer orders • Detail oriented • Ability to learn and become proficient user of Ashley specific computer systems • Effective time management and organizational skills • Work independently as well as in a team environment • Analytical and problem solving skills • Maintain confidentiality • Learn process improvement methods and CQI statistics • Adapt to change and remain flexible • Handle multiple projects simultaneously within established time constraints • Respond professionally in situations with difficult employee/vendor/customer issues or inquiries EQUIPMENT USED? Physical Requirements • Majority of work involves standing for extended periods of time • Stands and walks/moves to different locations as needed • Occasional bending and stooping • Continuous use of hands to operate keyboard, phones, copy machines, and to prepare materials 3.
