Ashley Williams deal hits roadblock as Swans ask Arsenal for more money. Arsene Wenger might be in for some serious disappointment. The Frenchman has been told to come back with an improved bid of £10m for his coveted defensive target Ashley Williams, according to The Sun. According to the news, Swansea would not be willing to negotiate for less than the stipulated price for their skipper. This might be a major deterrent for Wenger who has had the Welshman on his radar since January and had decided to make a bid around £8m for him. The Frenchman is known to be pretty frugal minded when it comes to splashing money in the transfer market and might not wish to pay the extra £2 million for Williams. Moreover, with Laurent Koscielny asserting his commitment to the club, the boss might decide against investing a significant part of his transfer budget on bringing in a solid defender to the Emirates this season. However, one major problem for the 63 year old might be his decision to offload Thomas Vermaelen. Pundits would agree that in a vehemently physical league like the Premier League, there is always a high tendency of players to get injured. Therefore, the Gunners would be digging their own grave if they march into the new season without a backup plan in store. Wenger might thus decide to go in strongly for Valencia’s Adil Rami now, who might himself cost around £10m, but may prove to be a more formidable defender on account of his experience. The Gunners had been caught in a four way battle for sometime, with Liverpool, Everton and Napoli also vying for the Welshman’s signature this season. It remains to be seen which club comes up with the £10m to sign the Swansea captain. "Alex"
