Ashutosh, Nick, Paul, Pathy, Ravi, Adhiraaj, Meghashyam, Pankaj, Amit and all other dear friends..Ashutosh and friends - I have been reading all the messages since yesterday. I am sure by now most of you know that i am more than just addicted to these watches. I was silent yesterday as i wanted to gather my thoughts before i could make my remark. India is a country of 1.252 billion Indians and any decision made by the govt has to be in interest of its citizens. As i understand the govt has decided to close down HMT to save 250 crores of INR every year spent of running HMT, prima facie on other projects that are much higher in priority - Infrastructure, education, healthcare etc. Lets face it in a population of 1.252 billion people not even 1 lakh people are HMT customers. We can argue that with better marketing etc this company can be revived. But thinking practically, the govt will not take that point. In the last few months i have learnt that many members of our group including me have written to various important people drawing their attention to HMT watches, however nothing has happened.Apparently, Govt has bigger problems to handle. Except for a few pilots, Janata, Jawan, Kohinoor, Sona and handful of automatics there arent much takers for even the other winding watches. It can only be a miracle that can keep the watches running and the chances of that happening are very slim. Apart from collectors and a few old patrons not many people even want these watches. Thus, I think we cannot get anything by mourning the loss of HMT watches instead we should celebrate the legacy and keep it alive for generations to come so that the Desh ki Dhadkan stays alive as humare dil ke dhadkan.
