Ashwaghanda is what I would do if I felt I had Hypothyroid (which is more common) or Hyperthyroid. This supplement can be used for both. Start with 850 mgs per day. If you feel you have thyroid disorder symptoms and your Dr orders TSH blood test to see if you have thyroid condition... Run away and keep searching for a Dr who will do the whole thyroid panel for you. People usually go to their Dr complaining from thyroid symptoms, first and sometimes the only test your Dr will order is TSH and when the called normal results are there then he/she will assure you that your thyroid is perfect! And you might go home with all in your head sentence. TSH cannot speak of our thyroid function but it can tell more about our pituitary because the this test cannot measure if all your cells & tissue are receiving the released thyroid hormones. When you check your thyroid these are the tests you want to have: TSH, ft3, ft4, reverse t3, anti thyroglobulin and anti-TPO. Now how to read thyroid panel results? Most laboratories consider a normal range for TSH is 0.3-4.2 , while all holistic practitioners like myself and functional Drs/ Endocrinologists prefer TSH not to exceed 2. Optimal fT3 should be in last quarter of the top range. If fT3 is mid-range or lower, and you are experiencing hypothyroid symptoms, you may have hypothyroidism, no matter how low the TSH is. Optimal fT4 is usually between mid range to top range. If you have low FT4 and a mid-range or slightly higher FT3 and experiencing hypothyroid symptoms, it usually means the T4 is having hard time to convert T3 (thyroid active hormone) which means hypo.
