Asian Pear/Sand Pear/ Chinese Pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) Native of China and Japan. Tree growing in my Lawn. This is the third year tree has been producing fruits regularly every year. This year the fruits are in good number as compared to earlier years. It is reported to grow at an altitude between 1500 to 2500 mts in its native place China, Korea and Japan but altitude of Jammu is about 350 mts. It is growing very well at this height also. Pear tree is very ornamental in the Lawn. It not only produces attractive white flowering in early spring but also lovely apple like green fruits and is appropriately called Apple Pear also. Fruit is very delicious and crunchy with typical Tang of tartness as compared to European variety which grows in temperate areas and is more pulpy and juicy with very less shelf life. Asian Pears are green in color and roundish in shape. In Chinese Pear is called Nashi. Since Nashi was brought from China to India it was named as NashPati.
