Asiana at SFO: Autothrottle disengaged prematurely for an attempt at a spot landing on the runway numbers? (This is only a hypothesis -- it may well be ruled out!). No margin for error with a seawall intervening. This was a non-ILS (Instrument Landing System approach -- an ILS approach would use a glide-slope indicator. Approach was completely visual, which would provide an opportunity for a "spot landing" attempt. An approach using the glide slope indicator would necessitate touchdown well beyond the runway threshold.
