Aside from Billie Holiday, my favorite female singer, Eva Cassidy. The first time I ever heard this, I was running past a Starbucks and it was wafting out into the street through their outdoor ambience set up. It seemed insulting that this great artist was buried on one of their Starbucks compilation c.ds. I had completely missed this huge talent. Was gutted to find out that she had died in 1996 at 33, from melanoma. Her tone, pitch, phrasing and use of space is sublime.
