Aside from a Christian Education & The Learning Center at VCS - TopicsExpress

Aside from a Christian Education & The Learning Center at VCS -@VCSCrusaders, the Theater Arts Department was a top, if not the #1, reason to send our kids to VCS. In the past 2 1/2 years weve seen big production value stage dramas and musicals from elementary to high school. Where its not just about acting or putting on a play for the sake of drama or theater, but the reason they put on these performances is to serve a higher purpose: To find religious themes in secular work. Its profound as is - but it also is reflective of the schools theater goals having the backdrop of a Christian Education. And our kids flourished due to their commitment to the theater arts and it showed in their auditions for roles - both have gotten leads in their plays. Jacob, recently, in The Diviners as Buddy Layman and last year, Bella as JoJo in Seussical Jr. I just look back to the time when we had to make the tough decision and how hard it was to pull them from both theirs and our comfort zone. Taking them from a school they attended for 4 years then placing them alone into a sea of new students and the struggles they had to adjust to and the obstacles they had to overcome: And there is a list: From Dyslexia to higher levels of educational, choosing Theater or a sport and all the while fitting acting and auditions outside of school. Slowly but surely they are taking advantage of why they are here: for a higher education and to perform. Are they ready for the real world of college and an acting career? Maybe not. But they are being prepared for it. I doubt that Bella would be a member of a theater group in North Hollywood without her acting experience she has had in school. And Jacob has a new found love of theater and performing live on stage where he had to commit - not just a few hours a week of work, but 3 hours a day after school and 6 hours of his Saturday for the past 2 months: all this is due in large part to Thom Babbes. The director of TA at VCS. I try to impress upon them after each performance: Hard work pays off. Just watch Thom Babbes Theater Arts reel and what hes done in the last four years at VCS. Its like Fame - but at a Christian School. youtu.be/8FdAB8vR_RU?list=UU8jrwYPyOQ-vC-PKMaTHDxg They even had a Flash Mob on campus last year to promote their production of Hairspray.
