Aside from pushing with his accompanying slides a few not-so-subliminal plugs for renewable energy and his political preferences, David Brin identifies trends that run counter to the perceived wisdom pushed by the media. Poverty, crime and disease are on the decline throughout the world, while democracy is still steadily increasing. I like and agree with the conclusion of his presentation, that in order to get past the constant and all-pervasive sales pitch of gloom and anger, anger, anger all the time, he challenges his audience to try yelling this: I am as proud as Hell and my civilization can solve anything.
