Ask-A-Quaker - Basils got the answers: My friend, Sully, wants to know why his breed is a Sun Conure - He gets that hes the colors of sun at various times throughout the day. But he gets confused when I explain that the Con in Conure means he is one. Con Artist through & through. Do you agree? Answer: Beats me. The web says conure means conetail. But that makes little sense, since all parrots have long cone-shaped tails. The con artist theory seems plausible, although it seems to be your moms interpretation. And, lets face it, can you really trust her with anything? So dont get me started on those stupid names. My understanding is, humans sorted us into these breeds and gave us names long time ago, and we are stuck with them. Like quaker for example. It comes form quake, and symbolizes how our babies shake and quake. Now, really??? This is what we are famous for? Such wonderful, intelligent, insightful, and proud birds. Carrying ourselves with such reptiian grace... named quakers??? Now budgies, is a whole other story. Why would such silly, puny, insignificant birds get such a long and distinguished name? Budgerigar is believed to mean good cockatoo... Bwahahahahaha... Good???? And cockatoo??? How short-sighted or drunk was the person who came up with that??? Wahahaha...snort...snort... So, as you see, Sully, no point in trying to make sense of what humans call us, since it is all rather silly. Just be the proudest parrot you can be. No name can limit your potential!
