To atlantia Today at 5:21 AM Onto the populace that tends to be violent, greetings The Sergeants of Saint Aiden with the help of the Barony of Marinus are throwing a event called “Old Fashion War practice”. What, pray tell you may think, is that? All goes back to a event I attended with my good brother in arms, Sir Bryce, who mentioned that the day went like those event he remembered in his youth when scrolls were done on clay. We fought all day, had a simple feast outdoors in the cool air, drank and sang. The event site was close, and the site was cheap. My oh my, if we only had a piggy to roast that day would have been total for my good friend. Well, we are going to try and do one of those event that would bring back found memories to all of our youth in the SCA. Ye old fashion War practice will be held in Clarksville Va, about as center on the map of our Kingdom as you can get. Site fee is three (3) dollars, yes three dollars. The site is on Silverleaf Estates, a protectorate of the Sergeants of Saint Aidens. (Like Malta to the Templers.) It is a Wet site, primitive shower, but within walking distance of a lake. As Clarksville is a tourist town there is ample Hotels in town if you do not wish to camp. Fires are allowed, pets with proper vaccination documentation, and did I mention the term “Wet”? The day starts with Authorizations at about 1030, then fighting starts with Triads, progresses through out the day as we try out various ways to tucker you out, and whatever our Warlord can think of. (Evil sinister laughter in the Background) The day will end with the game of Atlantian Capture the flag. Then cool off in the lake,or hit the shower. After you get rehydrated, we hit you with a special feast on the lawn. The meal is going to be tailored for fighters at $5 a Helm-Meat, Starch, Fat and sugar. Rumors of Piggy, Deer, and Bear on the grill, oh my! Perhaps some of those new world treats as Corn on Cob, and a starchy root veggie that may or may not be period. Rumors abound that there may be Baklava drenched in Honey to be served. OOOOOOHHHHH!!!!!!, feel the blood sugar surge! The day ends on our wet site with a large fire for us all to drink and tell tales of the day, completing the fighter trifecta of a good event- Fighting, feeding and drinking. Just like on that totally period show on the Tele- The Vikings!!! (If it is on the History Channel it must be true.) Only thing I can think of adding to make the day more fun we can only do in Colorado. (Any word if anyone is still fighting out there?)
