As he flew over the Cascade Mountains that afternoon, he saw a series of nine flying objects traveling at more than 1,000 miles per hour (1,609 kilometers per hour). He reported that periodically they would tilt onto their side together and that they flew in a diagonal formation. The report was publicized in newspapers worldwide.
