Ask me why this movement is so important to me? I barely escaped. I mean I can barely even say that still, but there are a lot of my childhood peers and lifetime friends that cant. For me this is bigger than Mike Brown. I obviously didnt know him, but the fact remains that this altercation is the very result of an ongoing problem that has been occurring in this country long before I walked this earth. The fact that statistics like 1 out of 3 black men will end up in prison exists only confirms the fact that the life of a back male is simply not valued in this country. The fact that police officers time and time again that have taken a sworn oath to protect and serve can get away with killing unarmed black men, there is something wrong with that. Have you ever been pulled over for a traffic stop and had to fear for your life? I have. Turn on your televisions, look at whats going on. This is the result of what we call our country. This is the result of this great melting pot and there are obviously problems rearing their ugly head but you know what I see? I see people logging on to social networks enraged because they were late for work or couldnt get their cup of coffee on time because people were having a peaceful protest. A people that wants to go on living life as if there is nothing wrong with our society. A people that want to turn a blind eye to the fact that people are out crying for help and looking for answers for this inequality. A people that feel like that because we have a black president and they have a black supervisor at their job racism doesnt exist. A people that want you to remember 9/11 but forget the fact black people just learned to read fifty years ago. A people that want to ignore the fact the laws that govern this country were and are still written disadvantaging those with darker skin.
