Asking prayers tonight for my dog Ida. She was absolutely fine..pletely normal...energetic up until 5pm and on her way back from a walk in the woods she started stumbling and then finally collapsed in our yard. She was twitching and shivering something awful so we rushed her down to the emergency vet in Brewer but we only got a mile down the road before we had to pull over because she had a seizure and stopped breathing. Bruce did some chest compressions and she started breathing again. She was completely unresponsive by the time we got her to the vet but still breathing. She had another seizure at the vets. They did blood work and all organs were fine BUT her blood sugar had dropped to an extremely dangerous level which is what caused the seziures. Still not sure what caused this but the vet mentioned sugar free gum with xylitol in it can do this. There was gum in the house but if she got hold of it it would have been 3 already chewed for hours pieces. Shes spending the night at the emergency vet. She was given massive doses of glucose and her blood sugar had gone from 20 to 79 and her core temp was slowly warming up (her body temp had dropped too). Please pray that she continues to improve. Vet was optimistic but you never know. Ida will only be three years old next month so she is still very young.
