Asogli Festival to create platform to ignite cultural renaissance Ho, The 2013 Yam Festival of the Chiefs and People of Asogli would create various platforms to ignite a cultural renaissance to redefine the importance of kingship in the Ghanaian setting. The Festival this year, would coincide with the 10th anniversary of the enstoolment of Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbome Fia of Asogli. It has the theme “Traditional Leadership and Development Redefined”. Togbe Kotoku XI, Paramount Chief of Kpenoe and Chairman of the Asogli Yam Festival Planning Committee, who presented a programme lineup of the festival at a press briefing in Ho on Friday, said the festival would present the institution of chieftaincy for intellectual scrutiny. He said there were roles of chiefs that must be reinforced and certain perceptions about the institution dispelled. The 44 item programme begins Thursday August 1, this year, with a festival launch at the International Conference Centre in Accra and ends with an Inter-denominational church service at the Ho Sports Stadium on September 22, this year. Togbe Kotoku categorized the programmes into rituals, cultural, spiritual and community activities, symposia, expeditions, sports and games, meetings and concerts. He said besides rating and honouring of farmers, as part of the festival, products of distillers of local gins and beverages would be sampled for awards. Highlights of the programme, include, meetings with stakeholders, pilgrimage to Notsie in Togo, from where Ewes migrated to present day Ghana, a Business and Investment Day and a Miss Asogli Pageant. Others are the “hailing of new yam,” which draws hordes of revelers into the streets of Ho, regarded as the most patronized event of the festival. The climax of the festival is a grand durbar at the Ho Sports Stadium on Saturday September 21, this year. The Asogli Yam Festival grew in fame year after year the past decade during the kingship of Togbe Afede, a renowned businessman. The festival, which draws scores of dignitaries in politics and business to Ho, serves as a platform to market the Asogli State and the Volta Region.END
