Aspects of the personal lives of politicians are of public interest. Mayor Gregor Robertson has confirmed he has separated from his wife, Amy. For the entirety of his political career, she was his closest confidante and supporter. We dont yet know the details or reasons, or whether this situation has impacted the performance of his duties or will impact the performance of his duties. It is not, as Vision Vancouver has spun, a vast NPA conspiracy. The Mayors jurisdiction includes nearly 600,000 people, a lot of people who rely on stability and good governance at city hall, and the services it provides. We dont yet know where the Mayor is now living, who owns the residence and whether he will update his statutory disclosure before the election,to show that his personal business affairs are not mixed with his government duties. Likewise, we dont know whether he has a new partner and whether she may have a connection to city hall and/or his party. Sources have told me there is a connection, but I have yet to confirm it because the people involved, Mayor included, have not responded to my queries.
