Asphalt road track of Metro Bus from Saddar to Faizabad is ready while piling work on the dismantled portion of Nullah Leh Bridge near Liaquat Bagh is underway, Metro Bus Service Project Site Engineer Muhammad Asim told ‘The News’ here on Tuesday. He said that they are facing difficulties in construction work on Metro Bus Project at D-Chowk, Islamabad, due to sit-ins. “The ‘dharna’ participants had broken our crane vehicle some days back,” he claimed. Metro Bus Project Site Engineer Muhammad Asim said that heavy rainfall created difficulties for them during construction of dismantled portion of Nullah Leh Bridge near Liaquat Bagh. “Work on pillars of dismantled portion of Nullah Leh Bridge is underway, but if rain comes in coming days construction work on the bridge will take around one month, whereas if there is no rain in coming days then it will be completed in 15 days,” he said. Half portion of the old Nullah Leh Bridge near Liaquat Bagh has been dismantled, which trembles when heavy traffic moves on it. Metro Bus Project Site Engineer Muhammad Asim also said that filling process in Nullah Leh is still continuing. Filling process was delayed due to rains, which lashed the city last week. “After completing construction work on dismantled portion of Nullah Leh Bridge we could install girders of Metro Bus Service Project over it,” he claimed. He said that they have already installed girders over pillars from Sixth Road to Shamsabad. He said that ‘Asphalt’ road track of Metro Bus from Saddar to Faizabad has been ready, after completion of Nullah Leh construction work we would install ‘asphalt’ road track. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Shahid Mehmood said that they were not allowing the concerned builders to break Nullah Leh bridge due to risk. But, the concerned company working on Metro Bus Service Project on this section got an NOC from higher authorities to break Nullah Leh Bridge and assured that no untoward incident would happen during construction work, he added. However, despite such assurances, higher authorities did not allow breakage of the whole bridge on Nullah Leh in a single go. Metro Bus Project Site Engineer Muhammad Asim also assured to complete construction work of Metro Bus Project from Saddar to Pak-Secretariat within given time limit. On the other hand, the chairman of the Metro Bus Project, Hanif Abbasi claimed that the project would be ready before the deadline. He said the Punjab government started the Metro Bus Service Project to provide modern transport facility to the residents of the twin cities. A track of 22.5 kilometres 8.6 km elevated corridor in Rawalpindi and 13.9 km on the ground in Islamabad is being constructed for the Metro Bus Project. He said the planners of the project envisaged that the track would also be used as a railway track in future without major changes to the infrastructure. This mega project would be completed in record 9 to 10 months. Federal and provincial governments are continuously releasing funds. The track of the Metro Bus Service would take start from Flashman’s Hotel Chowk on Murree Road and it will end at Pak-Secretariat after covering total distance of 23.2 kilometres via Murree Road, Faizabad Rawalpindi, IJ Principal Road, 9th Avenue and Jinnah Avenue (Blue Area) of Islamabad. Initially, 60 busses would be running on Metro Bus track from Rawalpindi to Islamabad and more than 150,000 passengers would benefit from this project.
