In the language of the King James version of the Bible (1611), Jesus comment Suffer the little children to come unto me means permit, not to be in pain. Anxious implies fear or concern--anxiety. Eager does not. Slowly but surely the word anxious is taking on the meaning of eager. My 10th edition Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary includes eager as a synonym for anxious.
