Aspirin for Acne A common aspirin contains a substance called acetylsalicylic acid. This substance is very similar to salicylic acid which is the active ingredient in many acne treatments. A crushed aspirin can eliminate the red swollen appearance of pimples in about an hour. Simply crush an aspirin and then mix with enough water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area and allow it to dry. When the paste become powdery again, rinse the area with water.
