Aspy, Rosenbaum lead IBCA Players of the Week Bacon, Speidel, Evans, Corsaro and Krueger also honored for week of Jan. 5-10 Two players who reached 40 points in a game headline this weeks honorees in the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program. Westview senior Chandler Aspy poured in 42 points in his only game of the week, while LaCrosse junior Johnny Rosenbaum erupted for 40 points in his only game for the tandem to share boys District 1 accolades in the awards program overseen by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. Aspy and Rosenbaum are joined by Lawrence North senior Pat Bacon, Columbus North senior Josh Speidel, Gary West sophomore Dana Evans, Roncalli junior Lindsey Corsaro and Jennings County senior Baylee Krueger as honorees for the week of Jan. 5-10. Bacon is the boys District 2 winner, while Speidel was recognized for boys District 3. Evans, Corsaro and Krueger are girls respective recipients in District 1, District 2 and District 3. Aspy scored 42 points -- with 15 field goals and 12 free throws -- as Westview knocked off East Noble 65-60 in double overtime to improve to 5-5. The 6-3 forward also surpassed 1,000 career points in the game. The 6-3 Rosenbaum tallied 40 points with 18 rebounds, two assists and four steals as LaCrosse posted an 89-44 win over Valparaiso-based Victory Christian Academy. Rosenbaum sank 17-of-26 from the field and 6-of-8 free throws. Bacon propelled Lawrence North (9-1) to a pair of victories. First, the 6-0 guard scored 35 points with four assists and three steals in a 98-86 triumph over Indianapolis Tech. Bacon followed with 27 points and a strong floor game as the Wildcats defeated Warren Central 68-60. For the two games, he averaged 31.0 points. Speidel, a 6-8 forward, averaged 30.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in leading Columbus North (11-1) to two road wins. The Vermont signee opened with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Bull Dogs posted a 57-45 decision at Terre Haute North. The next night, Speidel produced a career-high 38 points with eight rebounds as CN defeated Jennings County 88-55 in North Vernon. This is Speidels second Player of the Week honor of the season. He also was cited for the week of Dec. 15-20. Corsaro averaged 30.5 points and 12.5 rebounds over two games for Roncalli (13-4) en route to capturing girls District 2 accolades for the second time this season. She tallied 29 points with 14 rebounds and seven assists as the Rebels beat Franklin Central 67-54. The University of Kentucky commit followed with 32 points and 11 rebounds as Roncalli rolled to a 65-38 victory over Beech Grove. Corsaro previously was an IBCA/Subway honoree the week of Nov. 10-15. The 6-0 Krueger scored 32 points with 12 rebounds and three steals in sparking Jennings County (10-4) to a 77-58 victory over Austin in its only game of the week. Krueger converted 12-of-20 shots from the field, including 3-of-7 3-pointers, plus 5-of-5 free throws en route to her big game. Evans was the catalyst for Gary West as it defeated Geneva (Ill.) 64-55 in its only game of the week. The 5-6 guard delivered 28 points, three rebounds and seven assists as the Cougars improved to 8-5. Evans made 6-of-17 shots from the field, 1-of-3 3-pointers and 15-of-18 free throws in the game. This is the seventh season for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Week program and the third season it is presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana, a banner sponsor of the IBCA. Subway, in its fifth season as an IBCA sponsor, encourages athletes to train hard and eat fresh. Player of the Week winners are chosen each week from each of the IHSAAs three districts. Girls winners will be chosen from now through the week following March 7. Boys winners will be chosen from now through the week following March 28.
