Assads Hasbara Reading authors like Patrick Cockburn or Robert Fisk on Syria is ever-more reminiscent of reading MEMRIs surreally re-imagined accounts of Israels horrific Operation Cast Lead on Gaza in 2008-09. In these authors topsy-turvy universe the Assad regimes razing of densely populated residential neighbourhoods across Syria with warplanes, helicopter gunships, missiles and tanks is a government assault on a rebel-held area, a trifle hardly worth mentioning. Its mass imprisonment and torture of hundreds of thousands of people, including women and children, is incidental minutiae or possibly an unsubstantiated accusation.
