Assalaamalaykum ! One evening, several moons ago, Emperor Jahangeer and his wife Noor Jahaan, were standing, on the top of their fort, anxiously looking for the new moon, which would signal the end of the month of Fasting, and arrival of Eid ul fitr. Jahangeer’s anxiety for the new moon was understandable, and sure enough, he sighted the moon and exclaimed, in joy” Helaal-Eid ba aauj-e-falak hawedaa shud” ( The Eid moon is visible in the heavens). Noor Jahaan could understand the joy of her husband, and said “ Kaleed-e-maikada, gum gashta bood, paida shud ! ( The key of the maikada, which was missing, is now found). Now that we approach the end of Ramzaan this year , I have a strange feeling of satisfaction. For the last 28-29 days, a large number of muslims, young and old, were strictly observing the holy month. The mosques were full at all five times, and during Taraaweeh ! Acts of Charity were visible everywhere. By and large, muslims were controlled and disciplined, qualities not always associated with them. It was evident that they were confident of Allah’s promise that for a true Muslim observing Ramzaan, He Himself, is the reward. But from the very next day after Ramzaan, the world changes. The mosques are almost empty. The quarrels in the muslim quarters are loud and clear. In short, there is no trace of the previous month, and life resumes .This would make me sad ! Not any longer ! God knows well the nature of His most wonderful creature.For all the failings, sins, and disobedience, the same Muslim, after eleven months, would be back in the mosques, praying, fasting, and observing the Holy month with humility ! I am sure this adaa of His servants is very very dear to Allah ! He certainly smiles and forgives all previous sins, and showers His blessings afresh !! I think this is how one should try to understand Allah’s words[9:112] Those who constantly turn to Allah in repentance, and REJOICE !!
