Assalamualaikum wr br and good day Dear Colleagues, Islamic Business School (IBS) are pleased to invite you to the Thematic Workshop on Intra Trade in The Organization of Islamic Cooperation Countries: Removing Obstacles and Promoting Trading Business to be held at UUM and Langkawi on April 14-16, 2015, organized by Islamic Business School (IBS) Universiti Utara Malaysia in collaboration with International Research And Training Institute (IRTI) Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Jeddah. Since 1970s, members state of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have been pursuing the goal of enhancing economic and commercial cooperation to improve the economic linkages and coordination among themselves and to jointly act against the global challenges facing them. Intra trade among them becomes the concern and considerable attention of leaders of OIC countries since many issues remain unresolved. However, amid good progression of intra OIC trade and its global market share, the dominance has been played only by Asian countries whereas the role of the other part of the world remains modest. Despite facing instability, Middle East and GCC countries should enhance their capacity to optimize their role in removing obstacles of intra industry trading business. Therefore, it is essential to examine their trend of performance, competitiveness, tax regulation, obstacles and challenges in implementing intra OIC trade. In the light of these observations and in order to ameliorate intra trade performance among OIC countries and to develop ways and means of joint cooperative action in expanding trade among them, Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and Islamic Business School (IBS), Universiti Utara Malaysia will organize thematic workshop on intra trade in OIC countries to remove obstacles and promote trading business. Issues pertaining to be sufficiently broad to get a diverse spectrum of papers, which will include the following: 1. Determinant of intra industry trade among OIC countries 2. Recent trends in the performance of intra trade in OIC countries 3. Competition and cooperation in industrial trade among OIC countries 4. Exploring the possibility of free trade area in OIC countries 5. Problem of market access: tariff, logistic infrastructure, transport etc 6. Trade promotion, financing instrument and trade facilitation 7. Issue of human capital in international trade 8. Obstacles in export and import among OIC countries 9. Intra trade business model among members of OIC countries 10. Other related topics The workshop details are as follows. The papers presented at the discussion will be reviewed for consideration to publish in a book that will be published by IRTI.
