Assalaualaikum,Today we will discuss the diffences in growing button mushroom and oyster mushrooms.I am sure most of you are familiar with white button mushrooms as they are the ones available in stores. The oyster mushrooms fall in the specialty and exotic mushroom group.Since these are very delicate, its hard to find them in the market.A simple thing to remember is that when we grow them in our home ,we actually try to replicate the environment of their growth in the forest, which is dark, damp and cold. The basic difference among these two types is that oyster are primary decomposers i.e.they can absorb nutrients from the compounds which are not decomposed. On the other hand button mushrooms are secondary decomposers i.e they can only absorb nutrients from previously decomposed (composted) compounds.Sorry for the boring part, but actually that does help us in growing them properly. Oyster mushrooms are grown on wheat straw(bhoosa) or "toori"The price is RS.8/kg.All we have to do is heat it up from 55 to 60C and we are ready to spawn. On the other hand, for button mushroom we take the wheat straw and chicken manure and decompose it for 21 to 28 days through a predefined process which we shall later discuss in detail.I find it easier to grow oyster as they are ready to eat in a month and frankly require much lesser work and they really taste so good in stir fry soups, scrambled eggs and what not.Now its up to you which one you prefer.Next time I will share the preparation of substrate for both the types in detail.Plz feel free to tell if the intro of other basics is getting boring ,I will skip that part in future.Have a nice day.Allah Hafiz.
