Assayii Lake Fire News Release June 24, 2014 7:00 p.m. Fire Information: 928-362-1482 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Acres: 14,712 Start date: June 13, 2014 Cause: Human, Under Investigation Location: 10 miles northeast of Navajo, New Mexico Containment: 80% Fuels: Pinyon Pine, Juniper, Ponderosa Pine, and Brush Terrain: Steep, rugged Resources: 10 crews, 9 engines, 1 helicopter, 1 dozer Total personnel: 405 As of 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, all roads into the Assayii Lake Fire will be opened for lessees and permittees. All others are asked to remain out of the area until a complete assessment is done by Navajo Nation Officials. No new livestock will be allowed to be brought into the area until the complete assessment is done by officials. The burned area is still dangerous and there are several hazards that could harm individuals. Trees have been falling in the area and there are invisible holes in the ground that people could step in and get severely burned. No one should enter the burned fire area. There continues to be a heavy volume of firefighter traffic so persons permitted to access the area are asked to please drive slowly and carefully for firefighter and public safety.
