Assiniboine Park Zoo is in the news AGAIN. This time a blind harbour seal got caught in a drain and drowned! How sad. This is incident # 4 since the fancy new Journey to Churchill exhibit opened a few months ago. 1. Wolves dug under their fence and ended up in the polar bear enclosure....trying to escape? 2. Tiger killed by another tiger when a staff member left a gate open. 3. Polar bear enclosure had its viewing tubes closed because the bears chewed the silicone......trying to get out? 4. Seal drowns in a drain. As one commenter on the Winnipeg Free Press website said Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence. There and four times indicates, to me at least, a systemic problem starting with management.
