This position has arisen as a result of the resignation of the incumbent. The individual who is selected will be responsible for assisting the Secretary-Treasurer with the management of financial, payroll, accounting, and purchasing for the Chilliwack School District. We are seeking an experienced and accomplished business leader to take on this important and challenging role. THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL DISTRICT Chilliwack is situated in the beautiful Upper Fraser Valley, just 90 minutes from Vancouver, and is a thriving and growing community of 80,000. The school district is well known for its dedication to quality educational programs, its strong financial foundation and its effective collaboration with community, parents, students and employee groups. The district has a strong commitment to ensuring that every student graduates with opportunities beyond graduation. The District is a growing school district with approximately 13,000 students in 32 school sites and an operating budget of $111 million. THE POSITION As a key member of the senior management team, the Assistant Secretary Treasurer ensures the effective management of the accounting, budgeting, treasury, purchasing, and financial reporting functions of the organization. Additionally, the position is responsible for managing the financial information system, and works in close partnership with Principals and Vice Principals to ensure that sound financial practices exist across schools. THE APPLICANT The successful applicant will possess: • A professional accounting designation (CPA); • Extensive financial management and leadership experience, ideally in a school district or similar public organization; • Demonstrated skill in the implementation and use of technology in relation to financial management; • Experience and ability in building the capacity of staff; and • Superior interpersonal and management skills, as well as effective communication and analytical abilities.
