Virtuoso musicians repertoire includes not only opera music, but also the difficult orchestral works. • Part I will consist of vocal symphonic music.Orchestral scherzo «Qudasha Duman», written by outstanding Kazakh composer Y. Rakhmadiev,that demonstrates unique musical traditions of Kazakh people will be featured in this part of the program. «Qudasha Duman» is performed during Kazakh national wedding ceremony, when the bride is brought into the groom’s house for the first time. During the joyful celbration friends of the bride and groom get to know each other. • Theatres leading soloists Baigali Mombekov and Dina Khamzina will present a scene from the opera «Abai» (Toi-bastar (Start of the Celebration) scene from the wedding ceremony). Opera «Abai» is written by outstanding Kazakh composers A. Zhubanov and L. Khamidi. It is one of the first fundamental Kazakh operas that is nearly seventy years old. • Key features of the first part are: the Triumph Scene from G. Verdis opera «Aida»performed by Zhupar Gabdullina, Baigali Mombekov, Dina Khamzina and Barseg Tumanyan; Bacchanalefrom theopera «Samson and Delilah» byC. Saint-Saens (Symphony Orchestra); Meditation from the opera «Thais» performed by Bagdat Abilkhanov onGiuseppe Guarneri violin from the year 1675 from the State Collection of Musical Instruments of Kazakhstan. • Zhupar Gabdullina, whose impressive lyric-dramatic soprano captivated the audience at the Mariinsky Theatre, will perform the part of Odabella from G. Verdi’s opera «Attila». • In addition, the audience will be able to enjoy a magnificent voice of Saltanat Akhmetova performing Queen of the Night Aria from the opera «The Magic Flute» by W.A. Mozart. Part II will present a variety of Kazakh, Russian and European musical works. • Kazakh music will be represented by the following works: «Kyz Kuu» (Girl Chasing on Horseback) from Symphonic Suite «Steppe Legend» by Tles Kazhgaliev, music director and conductor Abzal Mukhitdinov; scene from the opera «Birzhan-Sara» by M.Tulebaev (Aitys – singing poetic competiton). A sweet-voiced Aigul Niyazova will perform Sara, and Kazakhstans premiere tenor Medet Chotabayev will sing Birzhan.Kui «Tolgau» («Native Land») for dombra, kobyz and orchestra - Intermezzo from the opera «The Promised Land»bymodern Kazakh composer Tolegen Mukhamejanov will adorn the second part of the program.The bright patriotic composition, which is a synthesis of symphonic music and the sounds of traditional Kazakh instruments – dombra and kobyz, will carry the audience to the vast expanses of Kazakh steppe. • The Russian motifs will be featuredin the scenes from operas: «Prince Igor» by A.Borodin, «Eugene Onegin» by P. Tchaikovsky, and in a fragment from the opera «Boris Godunov» by M. Mussorgsky. The program also includes Azucenas monologue from G. Verdis opera «Il Trovatore» performed by mezzo-soprano Dina Khamzina andJuliets waltz song from the opera «Roméo et Juliette» by C. Gounod performed by coloratura soprano Alfiya Karimova. The countrys classical arts are undergoing rapid development thanks to a balanced policy and the support of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Kazakhstan has a favourable potentialconductive for the development of art, consisting of a school of composers, school of ballet and opera singing. The director of Astana Opera House Tolegen Mukhamejanov noted that the national works of art always evoke interest abroad. «The program includes works that demonstrate the cultural life of Kazakhstan, as well as the world masterpieces performed by Astana Opera soloists. We believe that the unique concert program will be interesting to a wide range of opera and classical artfans», – said the director of the theatre. The magnificent, state-of-the-art Astana Opera House was founded in 2013 and established itself from the outset as a major, progressive force in Central Asia. The theatre is located at the crossroads between East and West and its repertoire combines national traditions and world classic masterpieces. Astana Opera House started its theatre season with collaboration with legendary theatres such as Teatro alla Scala, the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the Mariinsky Theatre. Nine productions were staged in the first theatre season, each met with great success, including: • G. Verdi’s opera «Attila»(conducted by maestro Valery Gergiev and staged by famous director Pier Luigi Pizzi), featuring Ildar Abrazakov and Anna Markarova; • Mukan Tulebaev’s unique opera «Birzhan-Sara»(produced by Yuri Alexandrov)Conductor – Abzal Mukhitdinov; • Puccinis immortal masterpieces«Tosca»in co-production with Teatro allaScala(directed by Luca Ronconi) and«La Boheme»(produced by Yury Alexandrov); • Ballets «Sleeping Beauty» and «Spartacus»(staged by Yuri Grigorovich); • S. Prokofiev’s «Romeo and Juliet»(produced by Charles Jude); • Ballet «Rodin»(staged by Boris Eifman); • P. Tchaikovsky’sballet «Swan Lake» (staged by Kazakh choreographer Tursynbek Nurkaliyev) Collective of musicians, opera and choir singers’ voices of «Astana Opera» were highly praised by world’s outstanding masters. Famous Italian director Pier Luigi Pizzi said that he was happy to discover Astana Opera House. «The extraordinary choir was a revelation for me. To date, it is very difficult to find a choir with such concentration, discipline, and such involvement in the process». Peoples Artist of the USSR Yelena Obraztsova emphasized: «The choir in «Astana Opera» is simply wonderful – both male and female. It shocked me. I just never expected to hear such singing, and was quite surprised». «The orchestra consists of 90% of young artists who have a hefty amount of enthusiasm and passion for work, which is an amazing and beautiful combination... This theatre and its staff have fantastic opportunities for future development», – said maestro Marco Boemi. A world famous tenor Vittorio Grigolo, who performed in the gala concert at the First International «Silk Way» Festival on October 6th, expressed his delight from working with the team of Astana Opera: «I’ve never seen something so incredible and moving like tonight: beautiful young musicians in the orchestra, so young, and so good! Such enthusiastic audience, such talented soloists… I know that many great stars came to sing here already and a lot of musicians want to collaborate with this theatre.
