Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez believes new signing - TopicsExpress

Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez believes new signing Carles Gil could be the catalyst for his sides climb up the table as they prepare for their Barclays Premier League trip to in- form Arsenal on 1 February. Arsenal brushed aside Stoke City 3-0 in their last home match before securing a huge psychological boost by winning 2-0 at champions Manchester City last Sunday and have won four of their last six BPL matches. In contrast, Villa have gone seven top-flight fixtures without a win, picking up three points and scoring one goal during that sequence of results. However, manager Paul Lambert looked to address his attacking difficulties by bringing in the Spanish playmaker Gil from Valencia and the 22-year- old made a promising debut as a second-half substitute in Villas 2-0 loss to Liverpool. It was as good a debut as Ive seen in a long time Paul Lambert on Carles Gil Sanchez is a former team-mate at Elche in Spain and is delighted to link up with him again. For his first Premier League game, his performance against Liverpool was at a very high level, the Colombia international told Villas website. The fans were really enthusiastic with him and that was really good to see. Hes a really good player. He is very skilful and very creative and he will be a big asset for the team. Off the field, he is a really good person - a really nice guy. Hes pleased to have me here as his buddy. Its never easy to come over to a new country, but Im helping as much as I possibly can to make sure he feels at home. Its easy here because its a really welcoming environment. All the staff and players are great and I have no doubts that he will settle really quickly. Lambert was equally impressed by Gils cameo as Villa put Liverpool under pressure late on. Ive told the lads weve just got to keep doing what were doing and the goals will come, the Villa manager said. Carles Gil coming on was excellent. It was as good a debut as Ive seen in a long time. With the defensive midfielder Sanchez watching Gils back on the field as well as off it, the new signing will look to provide the ammunition for Christian Benteke to fire home. The Belgium forward has had a frustrating campaign, having been sidelined early on by an Achilles injury, but did score Villas sole goal in those last seven BPL matches in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, as well as netting in a 1-0 FA Cup defeat of Blackpool.
