Astoundingly good analysis of the way we interpret writing from straight white cis mens perspectives than we do from others. Just so smart. Thanks to Nigel Campbell for putting it in my feed, thanks to Lena Dunham for inspiring it, thanks to Jacob Clifton for writing it. Its not another shitty think piece, it has one of the smartest things Ive read in a long time: ...we look at women telling stories and still see them as characters in someone elses. And, of particular interest to me: Either way were not talking about real life, because when youre already a joke the jokes dont come so easy: Name the five most successful gay male comedians you can think of. Then x out every one of them thats better known as a writer, off-screen, or as a character in someone elses story. I honestly didnt think anyone else had noticed this. Also, read the Dunham essay.
