Astronomers have discovered something very strange about a rare class of quasar, which are the extremely bright disks of hot, blended stars, gas and dust that surround supermassive black holes. While the vast majority of quasars use intense radiation to eject gas away from their black holes, this new type of quasar appears to be sucking material INWARDS, towards its black hole. If further research confirms this to be the case, astronomers will have to rethink current theories on how quasars behave.
