At 11:55am yesterday, we were called to a man who had collapsed at Falcon Crag near Derwent Water. Working with Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, we located the 74-year-old, from Keswick, and assessed the patient who needed further medical investigations at hospital. The mountain rescue volunteers then carried the man across challenging terrain to get him to the helicopter, after which he was flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle in a stable condition. The flight took nine minutes. Three hours later, we were called to another incident close by, after a 61-year-old man collapsed and was critically unwell. Treatment was started by a local first responder, an off-duty paramedic and a passing doctor before the GNAAS team began advanced life-support, assisted by a road crew. The patient was flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle in a critical condition. The flight took 10 minutes.
