At 15.36hrs on Thursday 19th September two pumping appliances from Douglas were mobilised to a report of a smoke coming from behind the Prospect Hotel and Prospect House, Prospect Hill, Douglas. The fire involved a flat roof at the rear of the Prospect Hotel where building repairs were being carried out. Workers on the roof had made an attempt to put out the fire with a hose pipe prior to Fire Service arrival. A hose reel was used by Fire crews to extinguish the fire and dampen down, a full check of the building was carried out using Thermal Image Cameras to check for any fire travel and associated hot spots. The cause of the fire was due to an open flame igniting roofing tar. Damage was confined to the flat roof and windows directly above the fire. Staff were evacuated from Prospect House and Nivison House due to smoke ingress. Fire crews were on scene until 16.45hrs
