At 2 1/4 years old...Funny enough, its me, not my son who spills things and makes the most messes...and today is not an exception: Were watching a movie, eating cheese crackers, and I set the bag down in a way that it falls over and spills crackers everywhere. I pause the movie and say to the little guy, I better clean this up. He says, Ill help! So we go to the broom closet and I grab a broom...he exclaims, A BROOM!!! and snatches it from me...attacking the pile of crackers with the fervor of a hockey player going after a puck...and he proceeded to spread crackers all over the room...exclaiming Im helping!!! I just had to laugh...and I offered to show him how to sweep...he said No, Ill do it!!! And then started dragging crackers into another room... I went the the closet and grabbed a larger dust mop and said, Hey, buddy, heres a bigger broom. You want to use it over there (pointing to a spot, free of crackers). His eyes got huge, seeing the even larger implement...to his scale, this was roughly like me trying to sweep something using a Buick. He dropped the hostage broom and went right for the dust mop... I went ahead and grabbed a dust pan and started sweeping up the sprawl of crackers. Seeing what Im doing, after getting a small section swept into the pan...he came over and said, I help. So I gave him the pan and said, Ok bud, the trash can is over there...can you dump this in it? YES! YES! He goes over, dumps the pan out...executed perfectly. So I asked, You want to help clean more of the crackers up? He nods...we go over...he instinctively stoops down and hold the dust pan, as I sweep the crackers in to it. Then, without instruction, he picks it up and takes it to the trash can and dumps it right out. He looks around and smiles and says, I helped! Yes, you did, buddy...I love you.
