At 2:53 the closest severe storms to us are located in southeast Georgia where a bowing line of thunderstorms has developed in an area of 70+ temperatures. Douglas, GA, is currently under a tornado warning. Here, with scattered light showers, our temperatures remain in the upper 40s. We may warm up a few degrees later this evening ahead of and maybe even an hour or so after frontal passage, which may bring a thunderstorm or two, but our chances of anything severe are much reduced. As I suspected earlier, the steadier rains associated with an eastward moving thunderstorm system to our south have acted to hold the cool air wedge in place. Some storms are starting to develop out along the NC coastal plain where temperatures are in the mid and upper 70s but just a few miles further inland, say, along the I-95 corridor temperatures are holding in the 50s and perhaps 20 miles further west, just barely above 50F. It would take a serious surge of warmer air to push that wedge as far west as us or even the I-85 corridor and with the primary systems still moving eastward, I dont think thats going to happen. So, a few more showers this afternoon, a possible thunderstorm later this evening, then somewhat better weather Tuesday. More showers possible Tuesday night, then even better weather late into the weekend with 70s returning to the counties.--Steve
