At 21st century, disability is still a major problem in our society especially in African where little or no concern is given to persons living with disability by the government, families and other existing non – governmental organizations. The common negative attitude is yet unconnected with the great myths, taboo and superstitions being attached to different forms of disability in our society mostly the disability by birth. However, we encourage government, families, non governmental organizations, philanthropists, and international donors to visit “HAEI” office. Handicapped Ability Empowerment Initiative (HAEI) was officially inaugurated in the year 2011 by onyenuwe Sunday with cooperate affairs commission recognition, before then the NGO was existing with the name. Handicapped Ability Link Foundation (HALF). The organization was established to professionally address the issues of persons with disability in Nigeria starting from cross river state. Such issues include; To promote their welfare and initiating in them the spirit of good leadership Establishment of special education centers in all the states. To ensure proper recognition of persons with disability during election. To ensure persons with disability have access to quality health information and services. To address issues of HIV/AIDS among persons living with disability. To ensure that qualified persons living with are employed in government and non-governmental agencies. Handicapped Ability Empowerment Initiative (HAEI) becomes a platform where the challenges of PWD are identified assessed, analyzed, planned, executed, monitored and evaluated. Not all disability are acquired, some are by birth. Not all persons with disability are the cause of their disability No handicapped is 100% disabled Persons with disability can still acquire political positions. Disabilities are not obstacles to marriage; hence they could be responsible parents of non- disable children. Disable person (s) in families should not be seen as a course, Stigma, disgrace, liability, rather as a blessing from God. Disabled persons well taken care of might live longer than temporal able persons. The true test of the strength of any human commonly lies on how that society is able to care for its weakest members like the persons living with disability, the orphans and vulnerable children by providing HAEI essential services to facilitate the fullest possible realization of the tremendous potential inherent in them. Successful parents are those who achieve their goals in spite of the frustrating and discouraging forces against them. It requires deep understanding, patience and tolerance, as the end result is joyful and rewarding.
