At 40.2 weeks her labor started. Her deep blue eyes danced with excitement. While it was her second baby, this would be her first natural birth. Her first babe had been taken by c section. Not because it had to be, just because it was convenient. Since you are here, lets just get this started. You are far enough along . Being a young amish couple, they really didnt know better, or that they could say no. Pitocin was started, but mama wasnt ready. Water was broken, but mama wasnt ready. C section was called for failure to progress. This time would be different. We midwives looked at one another, knowing this would be long. VBAC Labors almost always are. They dont tell you of this conplication when you are signing for that first surgery. Contractions came and went all day Tuesday. By Tuesday night mama was a little less excited. We checked in over Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. . It still wasnt labor, but rather the prodromal stuff that preceeds a real vbac labor. The contractions hurt, and they kept her awake, but cervix kept going posterior and making almost no progress. Finally Friday night real labor kicked in. Mama was so tired, and these contractions hurt so bad. Her pretty blue eyes were clouded with pain and her sweet husband was tired. Contractions were hard all night, but by late morning she was finally able to push. Thankfully her labor was straightforward from there, and 2 hours later a precious baby girl emerged. After cuddling this new one, a little sparkle has started to return to mamas eyes... welcome little Elizabeth.
