At 5:45 pm I Brandon Brown of Estacada observed an Emu loose about a half mile from Dayhill rd on hwy 211. upon seeing this i drove up the nearest driveway to inquire if anyone knew where the bird belonged. The woman i spoke to had no idea so i decided to see if there was a way to catch her. When i got back to 211 the Emu had had entered the south bound lane. a line of cars was forming behind her. she was running about 10 to 20 mph. A box van was behind her, and north bound traffic was flying by in the other lane. After a while the bird slowed down and the box van maneuvered around her. She went up a driveway and stopped at a iron gate. The line of cars passed. i pulled in to block the driveway. and got out of the car. The emu was tired and docile at this point but wanted get back on the road. I blocked her in and called 911. The police arrived about a half hour later, and helped block her in. after a minute the owner of the bird showed up. We hatched a plan to put the bird in a horse trailer and bring her to her pen on Dayhill Rd. She and one of the officers went to get her trailer. They found that it was out of commission flat tires and so on. The search was on for a trailer. one of the cops called a contact at a local bar, and a feed store, to no avail. I stated that i knew a local farmer Don Guttridge that may be able to help. I drove up to Springwater Rd and spoke to him. He and his daughter were gad to help out. They hooked up the trailer and we drove down to the scene. The fire department was arriving as we got there. they also had a trailer. We pulled of to side. I got out and helped herd the bugger into the trailer owned by someone in the fire department. I think it was about 7:20 pm when everything was resolved.
