At 7:17 am this morning there was an accident at St. Clair and Howard where the person traveling down Howard toward 422 did not stop at the stop sign and hit the car traveling down St. Clair towards Crumlin. The car travelling down St. Clair that was struck landed awfully close to a bus stop that 5 children in intermediate wait for the bus at. I am writing this as a concerned and shaken mother who was upstairs, heard the loud collision followed by screaming (Im assuming from the person who was struck). I immediately looked out the window but couldnt see the children that may have been at the bus stop (the corner is obstructed by a telephone pole), saw one child walking towards it and another running across the street to my house. My heart immediately sank as I couldnt see my girls and thought the child running towards my house was coming to get me because one of my children had been struck by the collision. Thankfully my girls hadnt left yet and no child was injured being near the collision. My point is that no one cares that the speed limit through these side streets is 25mph, not however fast you feel like going, no one pays attention to the stops signs (I cant tell you how many times theres almost been an accident because someone blew the stop sign on Howard or because there isnt a stop sign on St. Clair) and no one seems to care that there are a lot of younger children living on these side streets that are either outside playing or waiting for the bus. Instead of it just being a car accident, it couldve easily have hurt or killed an innocent child waiting at the bus stop or if it had occurred just 5 minutes later - the car struck could have collided into the bust that comes at 7:22am. So please, SLOW DOWN, pay attention to STOP SIGNS and children waiting at bus stops, crossing the road or outside playing. That is part of your responsibility for being a licensed motor vehicle operator!!
